Piaggio launched a Vespa advertising campaign in 1969 with the slogan, “Chi Vespa mangia le mele — (roughly,  ”He who Vespas takes a bite out of the apple”), using a partly bitten apple as a marketing icon, seven years before Apple Computer.  The Piaggio logo and campaign were created, however, a year after the Beatles launched Apple Corps. And several hundred years after the apple’s use in religious iconography.
